Platinum Jubilee coins: How to get the limited-edition Royal Mint souvenirs

The weekend of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee is here and with that comes a whole host of celebrations. From Trooping the Colour to Party at the Palace, the event celebrating Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne is set to be packed full of various things to see and do. Street parties are set to take place across the country and people are being treated to not just one, but two bank holidays.

One special way that the celebration is being marked is through the release of Jubilee coins from The Royal Mint. The establishment, which has been making coins for 1100 years, have now released the coins and they are available to buy on their website.

The new coins were designed by the experienced coinage artist John Bergdahl. The reverse features a crowned depiction of the Royal Arms, whilst the obverse bears the commemorative Platinum Jubilee portrait of The Queen. Selected coins feature the edge inscription ‘SERVE YOU ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE’, which was inspired by Her Majesty’s 1952 Christmas message.

A booklet that accompanies each coin features an introduction by the royal historian and author Professor Kate Williams, and reveals how the coinage portraits have charted the Queen’s remarkable 70-year reign. But how much are the coins and how can you get them?

How much is the Jubilee £5 coin?

Interestingly, the £5 coin isn't, in fact, £5. If you're looking to spend some of 'the Queen's money' then you'd have to fork out an extra fiver and buy one of the special coins for £10.

Alongside the £5 coin, the Royal Mint have also released special Platinum Jubilee 50p coins and silver-proof coins. The 50p coins will set you back £6.50, coming in at a cost of £7.
