Plans unveiled to 'reinvent' Edinburgh's Gyle Shopping Centre with new cinema and food hall

Developers have unveiled new plans to "reinvent" the Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh.

The plans, submitted to the council by Threesixty Architecture, would see the shopping centre - which is located in South Gyle - extended and revamped.

This would include building a six-screen cinema and renovating the food court, as well as new retail and leisure units.

The interior space, which has changed very little since shopping centre opened in 1993, would also undergo a transformation to give it a "warmer, contemporary feel throughout".

The shopping centre's transport hub would be relocated also and shelters would be made with glass canopy roofs and timber benches.

Threesixty Architecture said: "The target is to reinvent the Gyle Centre site as a prime leisure destination in the West of Edinburgh."

This new shopping centre is a world away from the one many grew up with - here are 12 things you will remember if you grew up shopping at The Gyle in Edinburgh .
