Plans to upscale Cambuslang cycle park submitted to the council

Plans are underway to expand Clyde Cycle Park in Cambuslang to provide more facilities for bikers.

A planning application was submitted to South Lanarkshire council on March 4 to scale up the park.

The existing park, which is the first phase, includes a 250-metre cycle track, two modular buildings, a small car park and a footpath and cycle-path.

The second phase will see a larger scheme made up of a modular building cycle hub with paths, welfare facilities, a play park and a small cabin for cycle racing administration.

The facility also requires a 150=space car park with entry and exit off Dale Avenue in Cambuslang; there are currently only six parking spots.

Neighbourhood consultation for the expansion was first carried out on March 2, with it ending on March 23.

Standard consultation began on March 2 and ended on March 16.

A response to the consultation was made in relation to the archaeological importance of the site, the responder requested the developer to appoint an archaeological contractor to undertake work designed to mitigate the impact of the proposed development on the historic environment.

The deadline for determination is April 30.

The park was first developed last July as a community-led project and made achievable by South Lanarkshire Council funding.

The first phase of the project was developed by three community organisations – the Cambuslang Community Council, East Kilbride Road Club and Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust (CamGlen Bike Town) who worked together with South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture.
