Plans to transform Lanarkshire kids facility into small gym submitted to the council

A planning application has been received by South Lanarkshire Council to convert a parent and child facility into a gym in East Kilbride.

The authority received the application on April 6 and it was validated on April 20. The plans will see a unit in Kelvin Industrial Estate being converted into a gym.

The site was previously used as a gymboree play and learn facility for parents and pre-school children but the applicant wishes to turn it into a small gym.

If planning is granted, the applicant will use the site as a small group training gym to hold separate classes for adults and children.

Groups of around ten people at a time will be trained at the gym with the main offering being for adults, the applicant does have hopes to offer speciality classes for children, teenagers and pensioners.

Most classes would be around the average work schedule and outside the hours of 9am to 5pm. The initial plan is to offer a 7am, 10am, 5pm and 6pm class with extra classes added at 6am or 7pm if needed.

The sessions would run Monday to Friday without reduced hours at the weekend – up to two classes will be held each morning at the weekend.

Neighbourhood consultation for the plans kicked off this week and will expire on May 11, with standard consultation beginning yesterday and expiring on May 4.

The deadline for determining the application is June 19.
