Plans to transform Carluke storage unit into flats submitted to South Lanarkshire Council

A storage unit in Carluke could be converted into a block of residential flats subject to planning permission from the council.

An application was received by South Lanarkshire Council to change the use of a storage facility into four flats on Chapel Street in Carluke.

The site is located in Carluke just off of the High Street which is a mixed use area consisting of shops and residential flats.

The building is currently being used for storage for the applicant’s joinery business which was purchased around three years ago.

The building has been in use for decades by a local retail company as a storage building prior to the current owner purchasing the property.

It is proposed that the building be repaired, renovated and converted into four residential flats.

The applicant hopes to carry out work including stripping out all existing windows, doors, internal partitions and mid floors and repairing roof tiles as necessary with new windows and doors being fitted throughout.

The exterior walls are in sandstone and are in a poor state, the planner intends to infill the bricks where erosion has occurred.

A new communal access stair will be built to serve the two first floor flats and the property will be fitted out internally to comply with the current building standards.

The application was received by the council on March 24 and validated on April 19.

Neighbourhood and standard consultation has not been carried out as of yet.

The deadline for determining the application is June 18.
