Plans to expand Shotts dental practice given the go ahead by council planners

Plans to expand a dental practice in Shotts town centre have been given the green light.

Proposals had been submitted for a change of use of an existing hot food takeaway/newsagent in Station Road to allow the expansion of the neighbouring dental practice.

The change of use involves converting the existing use into a second dental surgery.

There was no objections from statutory consultees although one of the member of the public voiced his concerns over parking in the area.

Giving the plans to go ahead, council planners state: “Although the change of use results in a loss of a retail unit, there is retail protection policy and the proposed dental surgery is a suitable use for a town centre.

“The proposal involves all internal works and the physical appearance of the property will remain unchanged except for a change of signage.

"The proposal would not result in any privacy issues or overshadowing.

“It is not considered that the neighbour’s complaints regarding drainage would be a material planning consideration, and there concerns about parking refer to existing pressures on parking within the town centre which this proposal would not significantly change.

“As well as this, a condition has been attached which ensures that patients of the dentist will be clearly advised to not block any driveways.”
