Plans to expand car park spaces and CCTV at Gedling Country Park welcomed

A scheme to expand car parking spaces and install CCTV at Gedling Country Park have been welcomed.

Proposals have been put forward for a 100-space car park to the north of the existing visitor centre and the existing car park.

The proposed car park will be accessed via the main Gedling Country Park entrance off Spring Lane.

The plans also incorporate a new surface water drainage system.

An eight-metre CCTV pole will also be built at the site, if the plans are approved by Gedling Borough Council's planning committee.

Walkers in the park said spaces can be limited during the summer and school holidays when the weather is nice and welcomed the move.

Alan Williams, 59, of Gedling, regularly walks his dog in the park and said: "It makes sense. It's a popular park, especially for dog walkers.

"It gets really busy in the summer, so it should help with that. The CCTV is also a good idea as well to stop anyone messing about here."

Carole Marks, a 48-year-old mum of two, who lives in Gedling added: "I do think it's a good idea. The more investment in our parks the better for me. I like to come here to clear my head.

"It's obviously a very popular place, so it's good to see. I like the visitor centre as well. CCTV is a good idea. If there's up to 100 more cars here then it makes sense."

Gedling Borough Council's planning committee will discuss the scheme on November 6.

Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke added: “The car park extension is being funded from existing budgets and up to £100,000 from local developers as part of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is money that has to be spent on priorities agreed with the local community in areas where large development has taken place.

"In January, the council launched a consultation on how to spend this CIL funding and an extension to the car park was one of those options approved by people who took part.

"With the increasing popularity of the Gedling Country Park, this car park extension, if approved, would ensure even more residents can enjoy this fantastic facility.

"The CCTV will ensure visitors can leave their cars knowing that they are being monitored by our CCTV operators and should act as a deterrent to criminal activity.”
