A planning application has been submitted requesting to change the use of a former public house to create a ground floor bar and restaurant and offices on the first floor. The proposal has been submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council regarding the future of the former pub, The Mayze, on Castlegate in Newark.
The property is a Grade II listed building within the Newark Conservation Area. The application was submitted by Mr and Mrs Fairhurst on May 2, 2023 and Newark Town Council has since stated that they have no objection to the plans.
A decision will be made by the District Council on the proposed plans before Wednesday, June 28. Similarly across the town centre on Carter Gate, a planning application has been submitted regarding the former pub The White Hind.

The application proposes changing the front section of the ground floor pub into a cafe/restaurant area. It also plans to change the internal layout to create five separate residential units and subdivide the existing retail unit into two retail units.
It is also stated in the application that the atrium will be removed, a new external staircase will be built and there will be other minor external alterations.
