Plans in for new Lidl supermarket and Tim Hortons drive-thru at Trostre in Llanelli

Llanelli is set to gain another supermarket and a coffee shop drive-through. Planning applications submitted to Carmarthenshire Council indicate that a Lidl supermarket and Tim Hortons drive-through are coming to Parc Trostre.

Tim Hortons is a Canadian multinational fast food restaurant chain which serves coffee, doughnuts, and other fast food items, while budget supermarket Lidl has outlets across Wales and announced around this time last year it was planning another store in Llanelli.

And the stores are not the first to announce their arrival at the retail park as it has been confirmed in recent weeks that Matalan is set to move into the former Debenhams at Parc Trostre and new independent store, 925 Treats, will be heading there in Easter, 2022. It's more good news for Parc Trostre which has seen major retailers such as Outfit, H&M, Debenhams and Next depart during the pandemic. To get the latest on Llanelli stories, click here.

Six household name retailers at the shopping centre have had to close their doors in recent years at Parc Trostre, leaving empty units behind. But the new businesses will not be lonely - in the Trostre area alone there are currently four coffee shop chains and two drive-thrus, and there is also a Lidl just 1.5 miles from where the proposed new store will go.

It's stated that the new Lidl store will create around 40 new jobs and include an in-store bakery, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and 130 car parking spaces.

When speaking to WalesOnline in March, 2021, about the new store, Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Paul Hebblethwaite, said: “We are delighted to confirm plans to open our second store for Llanelli and serve even more of the local community our fresh, quality, great value products.

“We are firmly committed to continuing to develop the local area through investment and job creation. The team are very much looking forward to confirming a date for our public consultation when we will outline our plans and get input from those who will directly benefit from the new store.”
