Plans for seven Edinburgh short-term let apartments in New Town submitted

Plans to turn a former office building in the capital into short-term let apartments have been submitted by architects.

3D Reid Architects have submitted the plans on behalf of Northumberland Street Properties to repurpose the former office building into seven serviced short-term let apartments.

The location of the site is 1 Broughton Market in the capital and those behind the proposals have said that they will build on the industrial character of the structure whilst adding a feature gable staircase to provide access to penthouse accommodation in a dormer roof.

Those behind the apartments have said that they will act as an alternative to hotel accommodation in the capital, Urban Realm reports.

They have also tried to assuage local fears by saying that the risk of late-night disturbances will be minimised through the process of vetting guests and putting in place noise monitors as well as over-occupancy controls.

Chris Dobson, director at 3DReid said: “Whilst situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, the Broughton Market area continues to hold onto its distinct charm and identity, long established before its amalgamation within a Georgian urban block.

“It’s been a real pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to consider a contemporary intervention to this location, one which seeks to draw upon its rich industrial heritage and idiosyncrasies, whilst further diversifying the use and animation of the area.”
