PEOPLE in a Scottish village will soon be able to enjoy a brand new seaside sauna on their doorstep.
Wild Scottish Sauna has been given planning permission from Fife Council to open a new seaside sauna in Aberdour.
The Leven-based company has operated a similar sauna at Kingsbarn since 2023, and owners say the success and positive feedback from that facility has encouraged them to expand their business.
The newly approved plans for Aberdour will be the company’s third seaside sauna expansion.
The second was approved in June for land just to the north of East Sands Beach in St Andrews.
The Aberdour sauna will be set inside of a small modified trail with benches for up to around 12 guests.
Owners said visitors can experience the benefits of the sauna while enjoying Fife’s beautiful coastal setting.
It also makes cold water sea swimming and cold exposure safer and more accessible to people in the local area and beyond.
The planning application stated: “Our wild sauna is an excellent facility for the local community as we know there are many likeminded swimming groups visiting Silversands on a daily basis.
“The stress relieving benefits of cold water and sauna are proven and dramatic and we know this helps connect the community and enhance their wellbeing.”
Wild Scottish Sauna founders, Jamie Craig-Gentles and Jayne McGhie, emphasised that “health at all ages” is at the heart of everything they do.
“We want to support the health of the local community enabling people to live longer, happier and healthier lives,” the planning application said.
“We have offered many free sauna sessions at Kingsbarns twice a month since opening, supporting people and their families suffering with physical and mental conditions, thus helping support individuals and communities to be healthier and more active.
“It really is at the heart of everything we do.”
The duo also highlighted that tourism also plays an important role in Fife’s economy, and they believe that their new wild sauna would bring tourism “from both Scottish and international clientele”.
