Park goers have deemed plans for new toilet facilities on a busy park in Arnold as ‘necessary’. The proposals at King George V Park, Arnold, would provide brand new fully accessible toilets with a changing place facility for residents visiting the town centre.
The proposed development at the park is intended to specifically address the needs of groups of residents who are prohibited from visiting the town due to lack of suitable amenities.
The changing place facility, is similar to one at Gedling Country Park which opened in 2017. The facility is designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Dog walkers and parents who often use the park have branded the plans as a ‘need’. Mum of one, Fran Birley, 37, from Arnold said: “It’s definitely needed, the park can get quite busy. It’s a nice park, we like to come here when the weather is nice.
“You often see a lot of dog walkers and families, so I can imagine the toilets will be well used.”
Alan Finch, has lived in Arnold for 23 years and walks his dog named Luna, in the park. He said: “They’re necessary."
“There’s a good volume of people, not so much dog walkers, a lot of kiddies and ladies use it. I think it’s a good idea, absolutely. Especially when it brightens up. In the summer months you get a lot of people on here.
“I would suggest to open it and close it at a certain time, so they can’t be vandalised.”
However, in 2021 Arnold residents voiced their concerns about plans to build a new toilet block in King George V Park. They feared the new public service 'would attract drunks' to come into the park and sit on the benches for longer.
Mike Hill, Chief Executive of Gedling Borough Council said “We are very pleased that, thanks to external funding, which will cover the full cost of the project, we are now in a position to go ahead and start work on a new Changing Places toilet in Arnold Town Centre. This, alongside the recently opened AMP, will be another great addition to the town centre and help the local economy and increase visitors to Arnold.”
