Plans for Powys' first ever Pride event announced

Over one hundred people are expected to march in Powys' first ever Pride parade in Llandrindod Wells on July 16. The parade is a landmark event for the LGBT+ Community in Powys and has attracted participants from across Wales to march in celebration.

The event is contained to just one day and Powys Pride organisers have now revealed the event programme ahead of the festival and evening celebrations. The day kicks off with a parade around the town's lake at 12pm, arriving at the Temple Gardens for a free festival which runs until 6pm. The day-long event includes everything from dance workshops, drag acts, comedy and live music, to an exhibition space, book readings and history talks.

A ticketed event will also run from 7pm at the pavillion, and will feature up and coming drag performer Polly Amorous, a Britney Spears tribute, Absolute Britney, and music from DJ Madame Twisted. “The Powys Pride Planning Committee has worked extremely hard to bring this festival together,” said Shaun Griffiths, LGBTQIA+ support worker for Mid and North Powys Mind.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a reality. We have an amazing team of volunteers, and we have received so much support from individuals and organisations across Powys.“ LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination and harassment on a daily basis, simply for choosing live authentically. Powys Pride is a celebration by and for our community in Powys, though we invite anyone to come and join us in a celebration of love and solidarity.”

A volunteer-led effort, Powys Pride is a service of Mid and North Powys Mind with additional support from Llandrindod Wells Town Council and countless members of the wider Powys Community. For the full programme visit PowysPride.org.
