Plans for new 24-hour PureGym at Merseyside retail park

A new 24-hour PureGym could be coming to a Merseyside town.

A planning application has been submitted to Sefton Council for the change of the use of floorspace to "commercial business and service" at a unit on Meols Cop Retail Park. The application has come as the retail park currently undergoes a massive change with Sainsbury's building a new store on the land.

The application, submitted by Savills estate agents, is looking for "greater flexibility" in order to have a "gym occupier" use the unit. In the conclusion of the application, it says the change of use is needed for the potential tenant. It said: "The wider flexibility provided by Class E is necessary to meet the requirements of a proposed tenant; a national multiple, value gym operator (PureGym).

"The development will bring long-term vacant floorspace back into an active use helping to better meet the needs of local people and generating new employment positions and wages."

Unit three of the retail park has been empty since Comet left the site more than five years ago, with a number of units remaining empty over the years, although it now looks as though the area is set for a boost.

The application continued: "The proposed development will increase access to sports and recreation facilities and will contribute toward the strategic objectives of the Local Plan and Paragraph 92 of the National Planning Policy Framework which seek to support healthy lifestyles."
