Plans for huge neighbourhood near Edinburgh Airport with 'eco' features

Plans have been submitted for a huge new housing development tucked in next to Edinburgh Airport.

Put forward to the city council by Dunedin Canmore, the new neighbourhood would see 125 homes constructed off Turnhouse Road.

Currently a derelict site, the developers are hoping to "deliver quality affordable housing" on the outskirts of the city, with new roads and infrastructure to go along with it.

Details of the proposals has shared that the Turnhouse plot would include a mixture of different properties, from houses to larger and smaller flats, some of which would include balconies.

Not to be any higher than around three or four storeys, the new plot would also include a number of different environmental features for residents.

As well as solar panels on many roofs, the development would also include one electric car charging station for every six parking spaces.

With widened streets and open green spaces surrounding the new builds, the plans argue that the layout would be "warm, secure and attractive, as well as built to high environmental standards."

Currently farmland, reports have also been submitted on drainage and the environmental impacts of the planned development.

An official decision is yet to be made by the council.
