Plans for former Edinburgh nursing home to become six swanky new flats

Plans have been submitted to transform a former Edinburgh nursing home into a series of plush new apartments.

Put forward to the council this week, developers are hoping to change the use of the old Strathmore House into private residential flats.

Located at Church Hill, the listed Georgian building has been around for some time, with it's most recent use being as a full-time care home.

However, proposals now hope to split the building into six two bedroom apartments, and create a more modern extension on the side of the building.

According to plans, each of the new apartments will have two bedrooms, an open plan living room and kitchen as well as a dining area, and most having ensuite bathrooms adjoining to the master bedrooms.

Coming with stunning outlooks over the gardens of the property, many original features will be kept, such as the large Georgian windows and high ceilings.

The modern addition on the side of the building would also be built in sandstone and similar colours to the original property, mimicking similar extensions in the area.

Submitting the proposals, the application stated that they hoped to complete a "change of use from nursing home to six private domestic residential dwellings including car parking, private external amenity space, refuse and recycling storage, and cycle provision."

A final decision is yet to be made by officials, with the plans available to view and comment on here.
