Plans for allotments at a Lanarkshire country park submitted to council

A planning application has been made to South Lanarkshire Council to convert a former garden centre into allotments at Chatelherault Country Park.

The former garden centre at Chatelherault Country Park could be turned into an allotment growing site made up of 81 plots.

The application was received by South Lanarkshire Council on October 4 and validated on October 14.

Plans also include 22 raised beds, a Natsol composting toilet, two potting sheds and one shipping container on the vacant site within Chatelherault Country Park.

The applicant sought pre-planning advice from the council’s planning department who said the change of use would be considered as reasonable.

The council’s roads department was also consulted who confirmed that the proposals would have no adverse impact on the existing car parking provision within the park.

Historic Environment Scotland were also consulted and stated that they would welcome the re-use of this currently vacant site as an allotment site.

The site for the proposed plans was a Dobbies garden centre and then Amazing Ponds and Gardens; the building for these businesses has been demolished.

Standard consultation began on October 19 and will end on November 2.

The deadline for determining the application is December 13.
