Plans for a £130m residential development on a former car garage site in the Jewellery Quarter have taken another step forward as developer HBD has submitted a planning application.
HBD wants to build more than 400 apartments at the Neighbourhood scheme on the site of the former BMW Sytner in Newhall Hill.
The developer has now formally submitted a planning application for the project after holding a consultation exercise. If planning permission is granted, the developer hopes to start work in the middle of next year.
The revised plans would see 414 homes created at Neighbourhood. The scheme would offer a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments as well as roof terraces, social spaces, a gym and a "double height winter garden".
Simon Raiye, director at HBD, said: "We have had a very positive reaction to our plans for Neighbourhood and have considered and reacted to a number of suggestions following the consultation event. It’s great to be able to submit planning and begin to move forward with our vision for the site.
"We set out to create not just a residential development, but a successful new community that will enrich the Jewellery Quarter and offer an exciting new destination within the city. Considerate but creative design will ensure that the buildings are attractive and sympathetic to their surroundings, while adding new green areas and public space for everyone to enjoy."
Neighbourhood is HBD’s second project in the Jewellery Quarter, with building work on the Setl development now underway.
HBD is also behind the £450m Kampus redevelopment in Manchester city centre.
