Plans for £20m influencer hotel in historic Liverpool building approved

An historic building is set to be converted into a £20m hotel with design input from the city's influencers under plans approved by Liverpool Council.

The city's planning committee gave The Fattal Group the green light to convert the Gostins Building, on Hanover Street, into a 207 bed hotel.

The venture would open as a Nyx Hotel.

Cities such as Milan, Tel Aviv and Bilbao already have hotels operated by the company, described on its own website as a "lifestyle concept" hotel brand.

A distinctive building within the city centre, the building is currently empty after tenants in a discrete shopping arcade in the building's lower floors left a few years ago.

The new plans are the latest in a series of applications to extend the building and convert into a hotel, with the most recent passed in November last year.

However, Brian Madden, agent for applicants The Fattal Group, said that the application was not speculative as the applicants are already the owners of the building and plan to operate it under one of their own brands.

Mr Madden said: "The proposal is to bring this important historic building back into use and converting into an exciting new hotel. The building is not a speculative development, it is owned by the hotel operator.

"The operator is part of the Fattal Group and they operate 165 hotels in 17 different countries. The brand they have selected is the Nyx brand, which uses local influencers to create a bespoke experience for each site.

"This will involved the complete refurbishment and repair of the historical entrance features in keeping with the industrial style and integrity of this beautiful building."

Mr Madden said the two storey extension would be "delicate" and complement the existing building.

The hotel would also have a mezzanine restaurant and a ground floor cafe and bar.

He said up to 80 jobs could be created in the new hotel.

Committee members asked no questions about the proposals and approved the plans unanimously this morning.
