Plans for the development of a massive new housing estate in the Swansea Valley could be submitted later this year. The site of the former Tirbach Washery, in Ystalyfera has been eyed up by developers.
The site in Ystalyfera which is located 23 kilometres north-east of Swansea, and 1.7 kilometres south-west of Ystradgynlais, could soon see the construction of 160 new residential dwellings by developers at Hansak Ltd if given the go-ahead by council bosses.
The proposals for the site include a mixture of one-bedroom flats, as well as two, three, and four-bedroom houses, with residential parking, roadways, and infrastructure included. Representatives at Asbri Planning Ltd said they would now launch a pre-application process with residents before any plans were submitted to the local authority's planning department for consideration.
Accessed off the A4067 Ystalyfera bypass, the currently vacant site, which is approximately 9.56 hectares in size, was formerly home to the surface area of the Tirbach colliery, which also included a coal washery facility. In recent years it has also been used as a training facility for plant machinery operators in Neath Port Talbot until a working contract expired in 2015, leaving the council free to explore other options for the land.
The latest report published by developers reads: "Asbri Planning Ltd. has been commissioned by Hansak Ltd to undertake pre-application consultation in respect of a outline planning application for the construction of up to 160 residential dwellings and associated infrastructure works at the Former Tirbach Washery, Ystalyfera.
"We give notice that Hansak Ltd is intending to apply to Neath Port Talbot Council for the following development; outline planning application for the redevelopment of the former Tirbach Washery comprising the construction of up to 160 residential dwellings and associated infrastructure works."
Locals are now encouraged to take part in discussions about the potential development, with anyone who wishes to make representations about the proposals asked do so by August 3, 2023, by contacting Asbri Planning Ltd.
