Major plans to build 1,600 homes on the Wirral and remove two major roads have taken their next step.
Wirral Council wants people’s opinions on plans to create “a new sustainable urban village” to the north and south of Hind Street in Birkenhead near Birkenhead Central station.
The development is part of the local authority’s Birkenhead 2040 Framework which looks at transforming the town with new office spaces, research facilities, creating a new park, and thousands of new homes through different developments.

Some regeneration projects have already begun construction on the Birkenhead Docks at Peel's Wirral Waters with the first homes already up for sale. Wirral Council also recently bought two shopping centres in the centre of the town as part of its plans.
The Hind Street plans are now going out to consultation including public drop-in exhibitions at BirkenEd’s Place (8-12 Borough Pavement, Grange Precinct, Birkenhead, CH41 2XX) on May 19 12-6pm and May 20 10-2pm. A website can be accessed at: borough-birkenhead.co.uk
Alongside the 1,600 homes, there will be a primary school, offices, shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as healthcare services, a new multi-storey car park, and hotels.
The council also plans to get rid of the current flyovers on Borough Road (A5227) and Queenway Tunnel and change the layout of the roads outside Birkenhead Central station “to create a more welcoming gateway to the town.”
Steve Parry from Ion Property Developments said: “This development will deliver transformational benefits in Birkenhead and help regenerate the wider area. With such an aspirational and wide-ranging scheme, it is important that residents and stakeholders have their say.”
The public consultation will run until June 13 with feedback considered ahead of a planning application being submitted to Wirral Council.
