Plans approved for new £18.5m Lisnaskea health centre site

Planning approval has been granted for the development of a new health centre in Lisnaskea.

Plans for the £18.5million health centre on the site of the former Lisnaskea High School were approved at a meeting of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Planning Committee this week.

Work is expected to begin on the construction of the new centre in 2024 and completed by 2026, with the centre serving around 25,000 people in the local area.

Approving the recommendation from council officers to approve planning for the site, DUP councillor Paul Robinson said it was 'very welcome for the area'.

Seconding the proposal, UUP councillor Robert Irvine said: "I'm glad to see it. In another guise I was monitoring the progress of this and unfortunately with health estates, things like these take a heck of a long time.

"So if approval goes forward I hope that construction starts fairly quickly on site. "

SDLP councillor for Erne East Garbhan McPhillips welcomed the granting of planning approval for the health centre.

“I’m delighted that planning approval has been granted for the new Lisnaskea Health & Care Centre and hope to see work begin as soon as possible so that we can get this centre built and opened to serve people across south east Fermanagh who have been waiting for it for some years,” Cllr McPhillips said.

“By centralising services in a modern hub the new health centre has the potential to modernise the way we handle GP care in this area and change people’s lives for the better. Plans for the new centre also include enhanced services like physiotherapy and mental health services which are desperately needed for the community here.”
