Plans announced for historic Cotswolds pub following sale

A historic pub in the Cotswolds has come under new ownership after being sold off for £650,000.

The Grade II listed Rose and Crown in Shilton was put up for sale after its previous owner decided to retire.

The pub was built in the 1600s and is based just two miles south of Burford. The new owners names have not been disclosed by commercial real estate specialists Colliers, which agreed the sale.

Elizabeth Koo Donnelly, the new director of the Rose & Crown, said there were plans in the pipeline to create new accommodation at the historic venue.

"We were really pleased to find such a beautiful inn for sale, and we are excitedly looking forward to building on the legacy of the former owner," she said.

"We are aiming to make the Rose & Crown a must visit destination in the region and to welcoming customers old and new.”

The pub has an inglenook fireplace, timber-fronted servery bar and a dining room seating up to 45 people. At the rear, there are gardens, a large barn with scope for conversion and more than three acres of land, Christie & Co said.

According to the real estate firm, the Rose and Crown has featured in the Michelin Guide, the Good Pub Guide and has had a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.

Peter Brunt, a director in Colliers Hotels Agency team, added: “The Shilton Rose and Crown is a fantastic property with excellent development potential and scope for growth.

"We are thrilled to be a part of its historic journey and wish the new owners all the best in their tenure. I am sure that property will bring them years of happiness and most importantly profit.

"I am looking forward to seeing how the business will further develop and thrive in their hands. This is the third smart inn located in and around this region that has completed through me in 2022 showing how strong demand is for these lovely businesses."
