Planning permission to redevelop Lanarkshire industrial site is refused

Councillors have refused planning permission for the redevelopment of an industrial site in Wishaw.

DB Auto Repairs and Tyger Security applied for permission to remove the snack van at front of the site south of School Road, demolish all but one building, and create 24 units for storage, distribution and industry.

However planning officers recommended refusing the application as the proposals were contrary to local planning policy due to concerns in relation to noise, transportation and impacts on residential amenity.

The council received several objections as well as expressions of support, and after accounting for multiple responses from the same addresses it counted 16 objections and 17 supporting comments plus two which were discarded due to arriving after the consultation ended.

Objectors cited concerns over the impact the development would have on existing residences while supportive comments highlighted potential benefit to the local economy.

Planner Lindsay Kellock advised the committee that although further information relating to the development had been requested, this arrived too late for proper consideration prior to the planning committee meeting, but the applicant had declined the offer to continue this matter which was why it remained on the agenda.

The committee agreed unanimously to refuse the application.
