A planning application has been submitted to Neath Port Talbot Council this month for the development of a 16 -bed residential care facility on Cardonnel Road, Skewen.
The site is currently home to a former 39 - bedroom nursing home on the grounds, which has since been abandoned and is said to be in a poor state of repair.

Developer, SWP SPV3 Limited, said the most recent planning application it had submitted was for the demolition of existing building and the construction of a new 16-bed residential care facility with associated works including landscaping, highways, drainage and infrastructure.
The proposed building would also include four small communal lounges, one craft room and manager's office, alongside the 16 residential apartments which would come with a bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
If approved there would also be an additional two quiet lounges, reception area, two assisted bathrooms, communal dining room and kitchen, with meeting and training rooms also based on the site.
The applicant described itself as a care developer specialist operating in the UK, and said if given the go-ahead with the plans it would work with care providers, Fieldbay, to operate the building on a daily basis once it was constructed.
The report read: "The proposed residential care home will provide a home for up to 16 people with complex needs, including autism, learning disabilities and other disabilities, and are not able to look after themselves. The intention of the care provided will be to encourage as much independence as possible for the future service users but recognising their high care needs."
The application will now go to Neath Port Talbot's Council's planning department for consideration in the coming months.
