Plane crashes on motorway outside Paris after colliding with power cables

Three tourists have reportedly died after a plane crashed onto a motorway after hitting power cables outside Paris

A police source disclosed that no cars were hit in the incident on Sunday afternoon but the motorway was closed in both directions for several hours.

Pictures show the aircraft on the road after it went down near the French towns of Noisiel and Collegien in the Seine-et-Marne region, according to AFP.

It is the second time a tourist plane from Lognes-Emerainville flying club has crashed on the A4 in the past 12 months, according to the Association of Residents of the Lognes Aerodrome.

A woman and two men are said to have died with Meaux prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier stating the pilot, a male aged 34 or 35, was one of those to perish.

Footage shows debris from the plane spread over the motorway with smoke rising from the site.

A video shows passing motorists stopping by the wreckage as emergency services responded.

Le Parisien said that the plane had taken off at around 2.45pm and crashed at around 4pm.

The road was cleared shortly after 10pm to allow traffic to continue.
