A plane carrying Donald Trump was forced to make an emergency landing in New Orleans due to engine failure over the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday night.
The plane, a Dassault Falcon 900, had gone about 75 miles from a New Orleans airport before turning back to the city where he had given a speech that evening, it is reported.
The plane was said to be returning Trump to his home in Palm Beach, Florida, from a New Orleans hotel where he was speaking to Republican Party donors at a private event.
The plane belonged to a donor who loaned it to the former US president for the evening and Trump advisers secured another donor's plane to take him back to his home in Florida.
Other passengers included Secret Service agents, support staff and some of Trump's advisers.
Audio has emerged from the flight where the pilot is heard talking to air traffic control.
An air traffic control officer tells the pilot: "Try to maintain 2,000. They said there was a fog blowing in so I'm not sure how it looks for the visual but the airport is off to your right."
Another voice says: "Down to 2,000 and we do have airport for 30 Foxtrot."
The pilot says: "Copy that."
A person says: "11308 runway 11 clear to land" and another adds "Clear to land 113 Foxtrot."
The incident was first reported on Wednesday by Politico and the Washington Post.
After news broke an email from Trump asked supporters to help fund a new plane.
"I have a very important update on my plane, but I need to trust that you won't share it with anyone," he said.
"Do you remember Trump Force One? Before becoming the greatest President of all time, I travelled the Country in my plane, known as Trump Force One.
"I have a very important update on my plane, but I need to trust that you won't share it with anyone: my team is building a BRAND NEW Trump Force One."
The email then gives people the option to 'see Trump Force One' by clicking on a link, that allows them donate between $5 and $2,000.
It comes as the former president said one way to end Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine was to distract it with a conflict with Beijing.
He said the US should put "the Chinese flag on them (F22 fighter jets) and bomb the s*** out of Russia."
"And then we say, China did it, we didn't do it, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other, and we sit back and watch," he said.
According to a recording of the speech, his suggestion was met with laughter from the crowd of wealthy Republican donors.
Trump called Putin's unprovoked attack on Ukraine a "massive crime against humanity" before attacking the west's NATO alliance describing it as a "paper tiger".
