Plane bound for Spain forced to divert mid-flight amid chaos after take off from Belfast

Passengers endured a chaotic route to Alicante, Spain, from Belfast as they had to divert to France before making their final journey to the Spanish hotspot.

The EasyJet plane took off from the Northern Irish Airport, and hours into the flight had to declare an emergency on board as a passenger needed medical attention.

According to reports, the male passenger became seriously ill during the flight that departed on Tuesday, May 3.

The pilot had to make the swift decision to land the plane in Brest, France, in order to allow medical experts to treat the passenger.

His condition is unknown at this point, but he was taken for treatment as soon as the flight landed and was met by paramedics on the tarmac.

The plane was grounded for around two hours, according to Spanish News Today, but the airline confirmed that it later took off to finish the journey to Alicante.

An easyJet spokesperson confirmed the incident to the Spanish news source and said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6701 from Belfast to Alicante diverted to Brest due to a passenger on board requiring urgent medical assistance.

“Paramedics met the aircraft on arrival in Brest and the flight is due to continue to Alicante.
