Plan for chippy at £20m Wilford Lane Retail Park in West Bridgford

Award-winning chip shop chain the Cod's Scallops has put forward plans ahead of its opening at a new £20m retail park.

It was announced last year that the business intended on opening at the Wilford Lane Retail Park in West Bridgford.

Officials behind the company have now put forward plans to Rushcliffe Borough Council to install signs and branding at the retail park.

The Cod's Scallops will join Lidl at the £20 million retail park, after the German budget supermarket opened its doors last month.

The store forms part of the wider development of the £20m retail park, with a Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and Pure Gym also planned for the area.

Almost 96 homes have also been proposed next to retail the park.

The UK's number one chip shop already has branches in Mansfield Road, Carrington, and Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, as well as Long Eaton, Derbyshire, and Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

It also recently opened its first shop outside the East Midlands, in Birmingham.

In the newly submitted proposals, dated March 4, the chippy chain applied for permission to install illuminated signs on the front of a property.

An application form details that the business was seeking "external internally illuminated main shopfront signage".

Speaking previously, John Molnar, founder of the family-run business, said: "I'd expect a summer opening. It is exciting. People can expect the UK's best fish and chips and much more, such as some nice oysters, Norfolk seafood and the best of today's catch."
