(Pizza Express)

Pizza Express has reopened 13 of its London restaurants for delivery.

From Thursday 28 May, the Italian chain is starting a phased delivery only trial across selected London pizzerias.

However it adds that if the reopenings prove successful, it will consider opening rolling out the scheme further.

Zoe Bowley, managing director of Pizza Express in the UK and Ireland, said: “In recent weeks, naturally our number one priority has been to protect the safety and wellbeing of our teams and customers.

“With this in mind we opted to take some extra time to ensure our phased re-opening happens in a safe and responsible way in line with government advice.”

She added that Pizza Express has implemented a number of safety protocols so that its teams feel comfortable and it can ensure customers of the quality of the pizza they receive.

“We're now delighted to confirm the start of a phased delivery only trial across selected London pizzerias from Thursday, 28 May,” Bowley continued.

“Once this trial has been safely completed, we'll consider our plans for further roll out, so do keep an eye on our website and social feeds for the latest news on this.”

The pizza chain shared the news on its Instagram account, where it confirmed that the delivery service will be contact-free and available via Deliveroo.

“Our teams are now on site in 13 of our London Pizzerias, getting ready to fire up the ovens and start delivering your favourites, direct from our ovens to your door, contact-free via Deliveroo,” the caption read.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back doing what we love. We truly believe pizza can still bring people together right now, just slightly further apart than before. Stay tuned for more info, coming soon. We'll get through this. Together.”

The Pizza Express delivery service will be from the following sites:

  • Chiswick
  • Notting Hill Gate
  • Ealing
  • Clapham
  • Shepherds Bush
  • Wandsworth
  • Greenwich
  • Belsize Park
  • Dulwich
  • Camden
  • Croydon
  • Fulham Road
  • Balham

A number of restaurants have already started offering delivery and takeaway, including pubs giant Greene King, Nando’s, KFC and McDonald’s.

In March, the government told restaurants to shut their doors as part of the lockdown but have continued to allow restaurants to serve takeaway and collection services, in line with health and safety guidelines.

The earliest pubs and restaurants are expecting to potentially reopen sites is from 4 July.
