More than a decade after the bat flip trend took hold in Major League Baseball, a new celebration revolution may be on the horizon, led by Colorado Rockies pitcher Jefry Yan. The Dominican left-hander has been turning heads at spring training in Arizona with his exuberant celebrations, including leaping into the air and nearly doing the splits after a strikeout.
Yan, 28, attributes his enthusiastic displays to his deep appreciation for the game of baseball and his personal journey back to the sport. His professional career began in 2014 with the Los Angeles Angels but was derailed by arm injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2016. Undeterred, Yan played in an amateur league in Arizona while working odd jobs for several years before returning to professional baseball in 2021 with the Miami Marlins.
After a stint in Japan, Yan signed with the Rockies this winter and has been making a strong impression with his pitching prowess and unique celebratory style. Rockies manager Bud Black commended Yan's talent and encouraged his authenticity on the mound.

While some players have embraced Yan's flamboyant celebrations, others have raised concerns about striking the right balance between pitcher and batter celebrations. Yan, however, remains unapologetic about his exuberance, citing the influence of international baseball cultures where celebrations are more commonplace.
Despite being a potential longshot for the Rockies' opening day roster, Yan remains focused on his ultimate goal of making his major league debut. His passion for the game and dedication to his craft are evident in his performances on the mound, where he hopes to earn a permanent spot in the big leagues.
As Yan continues to impress with his pitching and celebrations, the baseball world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in his remarkable journey back to the sport he loves.
