Pistons' Jalen Duren Exits Loss to Hornets with Ankle Injury

Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren left Wednesday night’s 108-107 loss to the Charlotte Hornets because of a sprained left ankle and did not return. The Pistons said Duren would be listed as day-to-day on the injury report.

Detroit Pistons’ Jalen Duren appeared to slip on the court and roll his ankle in the opening quarter

Duren appeared to slip on the court in the early moments of the game and rolled his ankle. He seemed fine at the time and jogged off the court. The injury did not appear to be anything serious.

Detroit’s third-year big remained in the game for a couple more minutes before exiting in the first quarter after playing nearly eight minutes. He did not score but had three rebounds and one assist.

Duren, who turns 21 on Nov. 18, was selected 13th overall by the Hornets in the 2022 NBA draft out of Memphis. However, he was then immediately traded to Detroit on draft night.

Through nine games (all starts) this season, Duren is averaging 8.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 23.4 minutes per contest while shooting 83.3% from the field and 57.1% at the free throw line.

Duren posted his 67th career double-double this week, surpassing Andre Drummond for the second most before turning 21

In Detroit’s 124-118 loss to the Boston Celtics on Oct. 26, the 6-foot-10 big man recorded a season-high 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 28 minutes of action. He made all seven of his field-goal attempts.

Earlier this week, Duren also registered his 67th career double-double, surpassing former Pistons center Andre Drummond for the second most in that category before turning 21.

Duren still trails former Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard (105). Additionally, Duren sits third with 1,391 career total rebounds before turning 21 as well.

Detroit had won two straight games before Duren’s injury and Brandon Miller’s putback at the buzzer. With Duren out of the lineup, the team will need more production from Isaiah Stewart and Paul Reed.

The Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.
