Pistons Fans Chant ‘Sell the Team’ After 25th Straight Loss Puts Them Close to History

The Detroit Pistons lost again on Thursday night, falling 119–111 to the Utah Jazz. It was the Pistons’ 25th straight loss.

Safe to say, Detroit basketball has seen better days. The Pistons started the year by winning two of their first three games, with fans believing that this young team might be ready to overachieve a bit.

The hope wouldn’t last long, as their next game would start a streak of 25 consecutive losses and put the Pistons on pace to make the wrong kind of history. The NBA record for most consecutive games lost in a single season is 26.

Thursday’s loss to the Jazz was especially painful, as Utah was without several key players including Lauri MarkkanenJordan Clarkson, Keyonte George and Talen Horton-Tucker.

While Detroit kept things close—it was a three-point game with less than four minutes to play—the Pistons fell short once again.

The home crowd was clearly fed up with the effort the Pistons put forth, chanting “Sell the Team!" throughout the arena as the game went final.

Detroit’s next two games come against the Brooklyn Nets. Should they get swept in the two-game series, the 2023-24 Pistons will stand alone, holding the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history.
