Pistons’ Corry Joseph named as ‘sleeper’ Bulls free agency target

The Chicago Bulls need to make some serious additions to the roster this summer if they hope to effectively compete for a playoff spot next season. However, not every player they bring on board needs to be a starting-caliber player. They also need to round out the bench unit.

One of Chicago’s most pressing needs is the point guard position. They have guys like Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu who need to be re-signed, but the Bulls could still use some more help at the position. In particular, they could use a veteran to help lead their young guys, especially since Lonzo Ball is expected to miss all of next year.

According to Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, Detroit Pistons guard Cory Joseph could be a potential “sleeper” target for the Bulls to go after in free agency this summer.

“Finding a Ball clone would be ideal, but few of those players even exist—and they certainly don’t fit within the Bulls’ budget,” Buckley wrote. “So, Chicago could settle for covering at least a few of the traits that made him such a snug fit as its lead guard.

“Cory Joseph might help with that. He’s a willing and able passer who takes great care of the basketball (career 3.0 assists against 1.0 turnovers). The fact that he’s constantly looking to set the table means he could keep all of Chicago’s scorers engaged and in their right spots.”

Joseph is a name who may have fallen under the radar in Detroit, but the 31-year-old’s steady hand and solid three-point stroke could make him a nice fit in Chicago’s rotation.
