Pink Venom: Blackpink release their first single and video in two years – and it’s going viral

Blackpink have released their first single in two years alongside a new music video. And, in just seven hours the video has already garnered 41 million views.

Track Pink Venom is part of the band’s forthcoming second album Born Pink, which will be released on September 16.

Blackpink teased the new release last week on Twitter alongside news about their Born Pink world tour which begins in Seoul in October and sees the band visit London for one night on December 1. Further details about the new album are yet to be released.

A viral response was expected from the Korean girl group’s latest release: their 2018 music video for the track Ddu-Du Ddu-Du has pulled in close to 2 billion views, and their first studio album, called The Album, went to number two on the US Billboard album charts, as well as a top five position on more than a dozen charts around the world.

Plus, Pink Venom is the first release from Blackpink in two years, making it an even more momentous moment for their fans, who turned online to share their enthusiasm.

“BLACKPINK PINK VENOM! THEY’RE KILLING IT!” Tweeted one fan.

“Blackpink walking out the studio after recording pink venom,” said another, alongside a photo of some black heels surrounded by flames.

“Pink Venom is the best blackpink comeback i’m sorry no one comes CLOSE,” Tweeted another fan.

The group, which debuted in 2016 and is made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, has the most subscribers of any musical act on YouTube, even ahead of BTS and Justin Bieber, with 77.2 million subscribers.

Major US artists, such as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Cardi B, have collaborated with Blackpink and the band has already made one worldwide headlining tour where they played at venues including The Forum in Los Angeles and London’s Wembley Arena.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in May, the group explained that despite their international stardom, they want to be “ordinary”.

“More than anyone, we want to be ordinary girls,” said Jennie. “Sure, there are times when we talk about what kind of influence we could have. But what we actually love is talking about our cats, dogs, good food, and pretty places.”

They also explained their involvement in making their music. Jisoo said: “We don’t just receive a completed song. We are involved from the beginning, building the blocks, adding this or that feeling, exchanging feedback — and this process of creating makes me feel proud of our music.”
