Hello FPL fans! My name is Pingreen, and I’m back to share my top picks for Gameweek 14 and beyond, right here on SportsCasting. I finished 700th in the world in 2022/23 and ranked 1,330th last season, so be sure to take my Fantasy Football tips advice seriously!
Fantasy Football Tips From Pingreen On Gameweek 14
December means one thing for FPL managers: lots of midweek games and deadlines.
The chaos that comes with the winter period in the Premier League can really separate the pretenders from the contenders, which is why following by Fantasy Football tips during the busy festive weeks is key.
Captain Pick – Palmer (£11.0m) – SOU (A)
Cole Palmer was my captain pick last Gameweek, and he repaid my faith with a 14-point haul (28 if you followed my advice) against Aston Villa. Naturally, I’m backing him again as he faces an even weaker defence in Southampton.
This time, it’s an away trip, but according to the underlying numbers, Southampton have the worst defence in the league, conceding a hefty 2.09 xG per 90 minutes this year.
I’ll be putting my faith in Cold Palmer once again for a chilly Wednesday night clash on the south coast.
Defender – Colwill (£4.5m) – SOU (A)
I don’t expect miracles from a £4.5m defender – all I want is solid minutes and good fixtures. Levi Colwill offers both, looking nailed on at center-back for a Chelsea side that is really finding its groove this season.
And the fixtures are fantastic, with an away trip to Tottenham being the only time they face a traditional “big six” side in their next nine Premier League matches. You can expect plenty of clean sheets in that run, starting with their game against Southampton on Wednesday night.
He doesn’t offer much attacking threat, but at such a low price point, the budget savings he provides for the rest of your team make him an excellent option.
Midfielder – Saka (10.3m) – MUN (H)
Coming off a massive 18-point haul against West Ham last weekend, Saka was a strong candidate for captaincy this week. He narrowly lost out to Palmer due to a slightly tougher fixture but remains an incredible pick for the midweek tie against Manchester United.
The Arsenal star is averaging 0.71 xGI per 90 minutes this season, trailing only the likes of Haaland, Palmer, and Salah. He’s also expected to take the majority of penalties, although he does have a tendency to let teammates take some – a kind gesture, but frustrating for his FPL owners.
Amirom’s United team had a better result on Sunday, but it was only against a woeful Everton side. I still expect Arsenal to win this one comfortably.
Forward – Watkins (£9.0m) – BRE (H)
Aston Villa are winless in their last eight games, so it might seem odd to pick their striker as my forward of the week. But hear me out.
Despite Villa’s struggles, Ollie Watkins continues to post excellent underlying numbers, averaging 0.71 xGI per 90 minutes.
While his FPL returns haven’t hit the dizzying heights of last season, he has still managed 8 goal contributions in 13 starts.
On Wednesday night, he faces a Brentford side that are strong going forward but prone to conceding – with 22 goals allowed this season, only five teams have conceded more. If you bring Watkins in this week, you’ll also benefit from a favorable home fixture against Southampton next weekend.
