Pinellas County, Florida, is taking proactive measures ahead of Hurricane Milton by expanding evacuation zones and urging residents to consider leaving the county altogether. Emergency Management Director Cathie Perkins announced on Monday that mandatory evacuations are in place for residents in zones A, B, and C, as well as all mobile home parks.
Perkins emphasized the severity of the situation, citing the potential impact of Hurricane Milton compared to previous storms. She warned that the projected rainfall and overall impact of Milton could be twice as severe as past hurricanes, such as Debby and Helene.
Residents were strongly advised not to delay evacuation due to concerns about special needs or pets. Perkins assured the community that assistance is available for those who require help, including transportation to shelters.
“We are happy to come and get you, to come and help you, to put you in our shelters,” Perkins stated, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety over any perceived inconvenience.
As the county prepares for the approaching hurricane, residents are urged to heed evacuation orders and take necessary precautions to ensure their well-being. Stay tuned for further updates and follow official guidance to stay safe during this challenging time.
