Pine marten rescued after getting stuck in plastic from breaking into bird feeders

A pine marten who had taken to creating his own fashion accessories has been rescued over fears they could eventually hurt him.

The adorably named 'Ringo' was rescued by the New Arc wildlife centre in Aberdeenshire after he was spotted sporting three distinctive plastic ring 'necklaces'. According to the NA team the cheeky mustelid had recently taken to raiding the local bird feeders and the neck rings were a result of his activities.

Posting on their official page, they wrote: "Earlier this week, The New Arc received some disturbing pictures of a young Pine Martin bearing a collection of plastic rings round its neck.

"It was obvious that the youngster had been raiding the local bird feeders and had managed to dislodge the heavy plastic ring that secured the top part of each of the food dispensers."

According to them, after finding this an easy meal, Ringo had repeated his ‘break-ins’ on several of the other feeders scattered around the Troup House School grounds in Gamrie, gathering more rings as he went.

To prevent them from threatening his life or causing him future problems, they arranged a trap to be deployed at one of the feeding stations and managed to capture him.

Taking him to Glenythan Vets at Methlick, he was eventually sedated and the rings removed. During the inspection, they also found a small wound to his mouth which they also treated.

They added: "Once he had fully recovered from his sedation he was driven back to his home turf where all the offending feeders had been removed and we had the pleasure of seeing him scamper back into his local woodland."
