It is the refreshing cocktail that is a go-to choice for many as soon as the sun starts shining, but it looks like the Pimm's brand may have some tough competition.
As the summer season and Jubilee weekend begin to really kick off, many of us will be wanting to sip on a fruity and refreshing drink in the garden.
Of course, quite a few of us might reach for a bottle of Pimm's No.1, but it looks like one supermarket has managed to dethrone them as the best cocktail for the summer - and it is almost half the price.
Consumer champion website Which? tested the iconic British brand against two other supermarkets and found that one managed beat out Pimm's on both flavour and taste - Sainsbury's.
The blind taste test seen a panel of consumers who tried out gin-based summer fruit cups from Sainsbury's and Asda, which were then pitted against Pimm's.
All the drinks were served with lemonade and the panel were then asked to rate the drinks on flavour, strength, look and smell - with Sainsbury's own brand bottle coming out on top.
Sainsbury's Pitchers managed to steal the crown with a whopping 74% and it was the only contender that managed to nab a four star rating for its flavour, and an impressive five stars for a perfectly balanced level of bitterness.
Priced at just £11.70 for a 1L bottle, the supermarket's own-brand bottle is almost 50% cheaper and is the same size and alcohol content as Pimm's No.1.
The results will come as welcome news to anyone looking to stock on some fruity cocktails for the summer without breaking the bank this year.
Despite not taking the coveted top spot, Pimm's No.1 did tie with Asda's The Great Summer Cup for second place with a total of 71% - only 3% behind Sainsbury's.
The classic British brand managed to score a respectable three stars across the board, but it was easily the dearest out of all the drinks tested with a 1L bottle costing up to around £18.
Similarly, Asda's The The Great Summer Cup also scored three stars for look, smell and strength. Despite not taking the coveted top spot, it does win on price, as it is the cheapest tested at just £7.50 for a 1L bottle.
Other substitutes that were not included in the taste test this year, but fared well last year according to Which?, are own-brand summer cups from Aldi and Tesco.
The consumer champion website suggests Tesco's Summer Cup (£8) and Aldi's Austin's Classic Summer Punch (7.49) as decent alternatives for your summer cocktail.
