Pigeons found dumped in cardboard box at side of Glasgow road die

Animal welfare officers have issued an appeal for information after a box of seven pigeons were found dumped in a cardboard box at the roadside near Glasgow.

Five of the pigeons died after they were discovered in a layby on the A82 near Glasgow by a member of the public.

The other two remain in the care of the charity's Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

None of the birds were ringed, making it hard to identify a potential owner.

The charity has now urged anyone who may know anything about the birds to get in touch.

Judy Button, centre manager, said the birds did not appear to have been well looked-after.

She said: “The seven pigeons were found by a member of the public in a cardboard box in a lay-by on the A82 on 24 March.

“They were found in poor condition and unfortunately five passed away.

“They were not ringed and the remaining two are in our care here at the centre.

“We’re keen to find out how these pigeons ended up in the area in this condition.

“If anyone recognises these pigeons or has any information on this incident they can contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
