Piers Morgan swipes at ex-ITV boss as she comments on Meghan Markle bust-up at GMB

Piers Morgan has criticised the former boss of ITV Carolyn McCall following his highly publicised exit from the broadcaster last year amid a Meghan Markle row.

The Marmite TV presenter sensationally quit Good Morning Britain over his comments in the wake of Meghan Markle’s Oprah Winfrey interview, which prompted him to walk off the set of the ITV morning show.

Morgan repeatedly made dismissive comments about Meghan's claim that she faced mental health struggles as a senior royal, which she made during the CBS interview.

Prince Harry's wife allegedly contacted Dame Carolyn ‘demanding Piers' head on a plate’, which he says resulted in him being ‘forced out’ of ITV.

Yet in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Dame Carolyn has denied Meghan’s letter influenced Piers’ departure.

The new interview then prompted Piers to hit back at the comments on Twitter, using the Queen's original response to Harry and Meghan's suggestions of palace racism.

“Recollections may vary,” Piers wrote before he added an eye-roll emoji to the tweet.

The controversial TV personality saw Ofcom rule that he was not in the wrong over what he said, which saw him clash with GMB's weatherman Alex Beresford, who criticised Piers for his coverage on the breakfast show.

Piers refused to listen and eventually said: “I'm not having this”, before he upped and left the set.

Piers subsequently returned to finish the show, but went on to depart the show for good days after the heated clash, bringing an end to his six-year stint on the morning show.

ITV announced Piers had quit GMB in March last year, writing in a statement: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

This comes as the royal family has again become embroiled in controversy following the release of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ’s explosive trailer for their highly anticipated upcoming Netflix documentary series.

The teaser trailer was released last week and has been met with a divisive response, with many criticising the timing amid Prince William and Kate’s US tour.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been subjected to a mixed reception during their tour of Boston following the social media frenzy at the Netflix docu-series.

The teaser for the upcoming Netflix series shows never-before-seen photos of Prince Harry and Meghan, who are parents to Archie and Lilbet, as well as snaps from their childhoods.
