Piers Morgan 's appearance Question Time earlier this evening [October 6] was certainly eventful.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter returned to mainstream television with his cameo on the BBC political show alongside actor Brian Cox, Labour MP Lisa Nandy, former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi and businessman Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, as he slammed Prime Minister Liz Truss and called on the Conservative Party to 'get rid' of their under-fire leader.
Piers pulled no punches as he offered his thoughts on the latest Tory fiasco, claiming he believes Truss 'is done' following the Prime Minister playing 'casino politics' with the economy - branding her entire leadership an 'unmitigated disaster' and musing how he's 'not sure how she has the brass neck' to continue in her position as the country's poorest suffer.
The sometimes-controversial TV star's appearance on the Question Time panel in London this evening comes just days after Prime Minister Liz Truss ditched scrapping the 45p tax rate. After Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng confirmed the dramatic Tory U-turn in a now viral tweet on Monday morning, Piers immediately flocked to Twitter to add fuel to the fire as he announced his return to the BBC show.
Piers was the first to offer his opinions on this evening's episode of Question Time, after a member of the studio audience asked the panel: "How long do you think Liz Truss will be able to continue as Prime Minister?"
Laughing, the TV presenter replied: "Tonight? I think she's done. I think if you come in at this stage, two years until an election, with the polling as catastrophic as it is - and it's a direct result of the first thing you do for the country - and you play casino politics with the nation's economy, putting it all on red then it comes up black, and [the pound plummets].... I'm not sure how she has the brass neck to stay in the job.
"Along with her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng. It's not that I'm pro or anti the Conservative Party - this is supposed to be the party of fiscal responsibility but it couldn't be anything but the opposite."
He continued: "I'm afraid they have gambled with the economy and our finances and it won't be them that suffer, it will be the poorest members of society who are going to wake up to some horrific bills.
"They [the Tories] are going to say 'Well we're helping you out with energy bills ' but what about mortgages, because they're going to dwarf energy bills.!
Slamming the Prime Minister's reign so far, Piers added: "I think it's been an unmitigated shambles and I think it's been a reckless gamble - it should never have happened - and it's got to stop at the door of the Prime Minister.
"People say you can't get rid of them, but why not? They've had about 40,000 leaders in the last five years - let's throw another one on the fire."
Question Time viewers took to Twitter to give their verdict on Piers' strong opinions, with one writing: "Bloody hell I agree with Piers Morgan. Is that how bad things have got? @bbcquestiontime."
Another added: "Genuinely applaud the BBC for having #PiersMorgan on #QuestionTime
"May not be his biggest fan, but at least he nails his colours to the mast and speaks for a lot of people."
