Piers Morgan has slammed Oscar host Regina Hall for what he called 'lewd sexual joke... double standards".
Hall, co-hosting the 94th Academy Awards with Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes, said "Take your masks off...and your clothes" to a group of actors she asked to come get "COVID tested" backstage.
On Twitter, Piers said: "Interesting to see a female celebrity make lewd sexual jokes about male stars and physically grope them on stage. Of course, if a man did that, he’d be immediately cancelled. The double standard is laughable." He later said he was "only offended by the hypocrisy."
Twitter user GrushenkaH agreed with Piers, and commented: "That was awful! completely inappropriate and way overboard and long. brolin and momoa looked incredibly uncomfortable too."
However, Piers did praise Amy Schumer and said he was "enjoying Ms Schumer’s waspish tongue so far". He said in another tweet: "They only needed Amy Schumer to host. Her monologue was hilarious. The other two aren’t making me laugh at all."
And he retweeted her gag about Leonardo Dicaprio. "What can I even say about him? said Schumer. "He's done so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends."
Opening the Oscars show, co-host Wanda Sykes joked the ceremony was “where movie lovers unite and watch TV”, while Amy Schumer added the Academy had “hired three women to host because it’s cheaper than hiring one man”.
She added she was “representing unbearable white women who call the cops when you get a little too loud”.
Hall also referred to the choice to move eight categories to a pre-recorded segment, saying it was “a controversial and difficult decision but I think we’ve moved on”, as the lights flickered on and off on the stage.
