Piers Morgan has launched his latest attack on Meghan Markle after she opened up on her feelings about the "negative connotations" associated with ambitious women. The Duchess of Sussex made the remarks during the first episode of her new podcast Archetypes, declaring that she had never experienced the negative use of the word "ambitious" until her relationship with her now husband Prince Harry became public knowledge, as reported by the Daily Star.
Markle, 41, had tennis legend Serena Williams as a guest on the podcast when she said: "I don't ever remember personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious, until I started dating my now-husband. And apparently, ambition is a terrible terrible thing, for women that is, according to some."
Having spotted the Duchess' quotes on Twitter, outspoken broadcaster Morgan, never slow to take a swipe at Markle, responded: "It’s not your ambition we dislike, Princess Pinocchio.
"It’s the vile way you trash the Royal Family whilst simultaneously exploiting your royal status for millions of dollars as with this podcast." The 57-year-old, former Good Morning Britain presenter did not clarify who he was speaking on behalf of when he used the term "we" but many on the social media platform quickly denounced his words.
One poster wrote: "Nobody likes you Piers. Go sit down and shut up why don't you.
"Ambitious shouldn't have a negative connotation. Unless you think it's OK for them to be parasitic losers like the ones you're stuck with."
Another added: "Aww, is Piers still upset that a woman exercised her right to never speak to him again?" Some did defend the TalkTV host, though, with one commenting: "Wasn't the podcast supposed to be about Serena Williams?
"This is why people don't like her - because she comes across as perpetually vengeful and bitter. Hard pass on the podcast."
The Duchess introduced the new podcast series by saying: "Hi, I’m Meghan and this is Archetypes – my podcast about the labels and tropes that try to hold women back. Over the course of the next dozen episodes, we’re going to live inside and rip apart the boxes women have been placed into for generations – boxes like diva, crazy, the b-word, sl**.
"Some of these words – these labels – are harsh; they’re abrasive and I want to get to the bottom of where they come from, why they’ve stuck around for so long, and – importantly – how we can move past them."
