Piers Morgan slams Celtic fans over 'pathetic' anti-monarchy banner and chants

Piers Morgan slams Celtic fans over 'pathetic' anti-monarchy banner and chants

PIERS MORGAN has branded anti-monarchy chants and a banner displayed by Celtic fans as "pathetic".

The broadcaster slammed supporters after 'If you hate the Royal Family, clap your hands' chants were heard during a minute's applause in tribute to the Queen.

St Mirren held a minute's applause to honour the Queen after she passed away last week.

Butt the loud chants could be heard clearly in the stadium and on live TV coverage.

A banner wit the same words was also displayed by Celtic fans housed in the away end of the SMiSA Stadium.

Reacting to news coverage of the incident, Morgan simply tweeted: "Pathetic".

Sky Sports apologised to viewers for anything they might have heard which was offensive after the minute's applause.

Addressing the chants, commentator Ian Crocker said: "Apologies if you were offended by anything you might have heard.

"Most people showed respect some did not."
