Arsenal celebrity fan Piers Morgan has claimed that football has reached 'peak VAR hell' after Leeds United's game against the Gunners was delayed by nearly 40 minutes due to a power cut. A loss of power at Elland Road meant that both VAR and goal line technology was not working, while communication through ear pieces was not possible for the officials.
The game was halted as stadium staff and officials tried to resolve the issue. Some fans were calling for the match to continue despite the power cut, but the game didn't get back underway until 2:40pm, when all the technology was back working properly.
The decision to halt the game for such a long period of time angered supporters. Of course, you only have to go back a few years to find Premier League games without VAR or goal line technology, but the fact they waited for the issue to be resolved highlights how crucial it is to the modern game.

However, some fans, including Morgan, believe the incident showed an over reliance on the technology. The Gunners supporter claimed that VAR 'always' gets the decision wrong anyway, as he called for the game to go ahead without it.
He tweeted: “FFS. The Leeds/Arsenal game is currently suspended because the referee has lost tech comms contact with an automated system that always gets it wrong anyway. We’ve reached peak VAR hell."

Ironically, VAR had a huge role to play in the game, with the technology overturning a late Leeds penalty and Gabriel Magalhaes red card. Arsenal survived a few scares to win the game 1-0 thanks to Bukayo Saka's first half goal.
