Piers Morgan's 'double standards' with U-Turn on Roman Abramovich as 2014 tweet uncovered

Piers Morgan has been left looking a bit red-faced after a U-Turn on Roman Abramovich.

The Chelsea owner has been in the headlines recently since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The billionaire, who put the club up for sale, has alleged close links to Vladimir Putin.

Oligarchs from the country have been in the spotlight as a result of their connections to the leader, with many calling for them to be sanctioned, and Abramovicch had his assets frozen by the UK Government on Thursday.

Despite that he retains the affection of the Chelsea fans, who have seen their club enjoy huge success as a result of his wealth.

They sung his name in the win at Burnley at the weekend and again did so during the win at Norwich City on Thursday night.

The Mirror reports Morgan took aim at the away fans, stating on Twitter: "Have they chanted Putin’s too yet? #morons".

But the well-known Arsenal fan said back in 2014 that he wished the Russian had poured his fortunes in to the Gunners.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003.

The Blues have won five Premier League titles to Arsenal's one since then as well as a host of other trophies.

Morgan tweeted previously: "I wish Abramovich had bought Arsenal #cash #winner #fan".

His apparent change of mind has seen the incredibly opinionated individual called out on social media.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel did concede that the chanting on Abramovich's name was not well timed given the moments pause to support those in Ukraine.

He said at the weekend: “It’s not the moment to do this. If we show solidarity, we should show solidarity together.

“We take the knee together, if a person from our club dies we show respect. It’s not a moment to give other messages.

We also do this because of what we are as a club. We show respect, and we need our fans to commit to this minute of applause in the moment.

"We do it for the people of Ukraine and there is no second opinion about the situation. They have our thoughts and our support and we should stand together as a club.”

Chelsea have seen a host of sanctions placed upon them which mean they will not be able to consider any transfer or extend the contracts of their current players.

There will also be no tickets sold for games at Stamford Bridge whilst the club shop has closed immediately.
