Piers Morgan's brother caught up in Thomas Cook chaos and 'put up in some terrible place'

Piers Morgan 's older brother Jeremy was one of the hundreds of thousands of people left stranded over the weekend following the collapse of Thomas Cook .

Good Morning Britain host Piers complained that Jeremy and his young daughter were unable to fly home from their Greece holiday.

"Him and his other half and their four year old sister were at the airport until midnight and then put up in some terrible place overnight" said Piers.

"But apparently they were the lucky ones, other people weren’t getting anywhere," he added.

"Thomas Cook staff were apparently in tears. Total and utter chaos."

But Piers went on to reveal army officer Jeremy and his family were able to travel back the next day instead.

Thomas Cook, Britain's oldest travel agent, went bust last night after it failed to pay debts of £1.1 billion.

This has put more than 20,000 jobs at risk, including 9,000 in the UK.

And it's estimated 600,000 holiday makers, 150,000 of them Brits, have been left stranded abroad.

A statement from the syndicate of Thomas Cook’s lenders said: "Unfortunately, and notwithstanding the efforts of all stakeholders, the £1.1 billion funding requirement to adequately recapitalise Thomas Cook has ultimately proved too significant.

"Obviously, the Lenders are deeply disappointed that it has not proved possible to rescue Thomas Cook.

"In partnership with other stakeholders, the Lenders worked tirelessly to examine all options within the timeframe required."

The company has entered compulsory liquidation and all of its flights have been cancelled, although the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has promised to get Brits abroad back to the UK.

Thomas Cook has around 600 stores on UK high streets, which are now expected to close.
