Piers Morgan lists three reasons why Wayne Rooney's criticism of Man United ace Cristiano Ronaldo was wrong

Piers Morgan has defended Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo after his return to Old Trafford was criticised by former teammate Wayne Rooney.

United's all-time leading goalscorer claimed that Ronaldo's return to the Premier League hadn't had the desired effect. Ronaldo has been criticised this season as United have struggled to cement their place in next season's Champions League.

The current Derby boss said United needed an injection of youth if they wanted to make progress. Despite the heavy criticism aimed at him this season, Ronaldo is United's top goalscorer and has scored some key goals, including a hat-trick against Tottenham prior to the international break.

Morgan had some words for Rooney following the former England captain's appearance on Monday Night Football. He took to Twitter, saying: "Hmmm. a) Ronaldo’s scored 18 goals for Utd this season, in a poor side, aged 37.

"Last time Rooney scored 20 in a season for Utd, he was 27. 2) Ronaldo’s still fitter now than Rooney ever was.

"3) There’s no footballer in the world with greater hunger than @Cristiano." There is still speculation surrounding whether the Portugal international will be at the club beyond this summer.
