Piers Morgan has described Ashfield MP Lee Anderson as "tone-deaf" as the fallout from his foodbank comments continues. The Conservative MP for Ashfield said in the House of Commons on Wednesday, May 11, that a reliance on food banks was overstated because people "can't budget properly" and that meals could be cooked for as little as 30p a day.
His comments were greeted with anger by many of his constituents, with one saying he should be "ashamed". However, others have backed him.
Fellow Tory MP and leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Ben Bradley, was one of those to defend Anderson. Now, in his most recent column for the Sun, Morgan was highly critical of the MP, saying he was "tone-deaf".

"Oh, of course, how stupid of us! There was me thinking people go to food banks it's because they have no other option," wrote the presenter. "But no, apparently, it’s because they don’t know how to cook or budget properly.
"They should simply be shown how to knock out a nutritious meal, he says, for 30 pence! Now, in the interests of fairness, I decided to fact-check Lee Anderson with a bit of consumer research, and I discovered he might have been onto something.
"A pint of milk - 5p. A sliced white loaf of bread - 10p. Packet of crisps - 3p. Six eggs - 11p. Then I remembered these were the prices in 1972...!"
